As part of the 2009 Aldo Leopold Centennial Celebration (celebrating 100 years since Leopold came to the Southwest), AWF organized a restoration project at Stewart Meadows in the Tres Piedras Ranger District. Volunteers constructed fence around some young trees to protect them from grazing and built rock structures in incised channels to remediate headcuts and reduce speed of water flow. We also visited the house Aldo Leopold built when he served as Forest Supervisor there from 1911 to 1913.
