AWF's Covid-19 Safety Protocols
AWF’s top priority is the health and safety of our volunteers, and we are committed to meeting or exceeding all guidelines issued by the New Mexico Department of Health (https://cv.nmhealth.org/public-health-orders-and-executive-orders/) and the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/) with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are following the current guidance adopted by both the CDC and the state of New Mexico, which states that fully vaccinated people may refrain from wearing masks in outdoor situations, which includes AWF projects (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html).

General Guidelines
- We strongly encourage all volunteers to get vaccinated for COVID-19, including booster shots. Vaccines are available for anyone age 5 and older at many pharmacies and can also be scheduled at: https://cvvaccine.nmhealth.org/
- If you are not vaccinated, and you are a member of a group that is at high risk of developing serious complications from COVID-19, or if you live with or are in close contact with highly vulnerable individuals, we encourage you to consider refraining from participating in any activities that may create a risk of exposure to COVID-19, including AWF projects.
- Do not come to a project if you are sick. If you have experienced any symptoms of illness within the past 14 days – including fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, or loss of taste or smell – or if you have been exposed to someone with any of these symptoms within the past 14 days, do not come to the project.
- If you are not vaccinated, we encourage you to consider getting tested for COVID-19 just before coming out on a project.
Preparing for the Project
- If you are not vaccinated, please bring a face mask and work gloves with you to the project. (AWF will have extra masks and gloves available).
- Carefully read the Directions and Details email that we will send you the week before the project for any additional safety protocols or other important information.
During the Project
- AWF will provide handwashing stations. We encourage you to wash your hands often, especially after using the porta-potty or touching shared surfaces.
- If you are not vaccinated, we encourage you to wear a face mask or bandana when you are in close contact with other volunteers.
After the Project
- If you experience any COVID-19 symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days after participating in an AWF project, please notify us immediately at [email protected]
